Marist Albion were the big winners from Metro division one club rugby today, and head into next week as the only unbeaten side in the top half of the competition.

After accounting for Cup winners Lincoln University last weekend, the Marist side went on to register a narrow victory of New Brighton at Rawhiti this afternoon winning 13-11.

In front for the entire match, Marist looked to have the better of the New Brighton side, but a late surge by the home team brought them within a sniff of picking up a draw.

A late try to Aaron McCoy put New Brighton behind by just two points, but Stefan Moir was unable to add the extras, leaving Marist the winners.

In other section one action, Lincoln University bounced back from their loss last weekend to run rampant over High School Old Boys and win 59-18 in a clinical display of running rugby through all 15 players.

The University men led 21-13 at the half time break but put the foot on the pedal in the second stanza to run away convincing winners.

Sydenham were the other side to bag vital points in the top section with a 37-26 bonus point win over Linwood.

Linwood didn't leave empty handed however with a bonus point for four tries, although they remain on the bottom of the table.

In section two rugby, Burnside were clinically perfect in their 25-0 win over Christchurch at home.

They ran in four tries in the match including two in the second half after leading 10-0 at the break.

Belfast's woes continued at Sheldon Park when they were beaten by Shirley 29-10.

After being beaten by University last weekend, Shirley bounced back to form to run in four tries while Belfast were left with a try to Mark Collins and five points from the boot of Kolio Hifo to show for their efforts.

In the final match of the round, Sumner picked up vital points with a bonus point win over University 25-12.

After missing out on a match last weekend due to ground conditions, Sumner showed they will be a force to be reckoned with in the second half of the year with dominant performance.
