Canterbury will start as favourites when they take on Marlborough in their annual inter-provincial indoor bowls fixture at Simcox Stadium in Blenheim tomorrow.
Traditionally the stronger centre, the Canterbury team will arrive in town full of players who just missed out on selection for matches against stronger opponents. However, Marlborough have upset Canterbury on several occasions and this year's team will go into the clash knowing they have the talent to do that again.
The hosts will be without the services of top singles player Shane Hitchcock, who is representing the province at the nationals in Auckland this weekend.
The Marlborough selectors have been forced to make two changes to the first team announced last week - Clubs of Marlborough's Ken Jones and Witherlea's Joy McKenzie promoted from the reserves to replace pair Graeme Liddicoat and Jan Draper.
The Witherlea duo of Judith Hyndman and Larry Hoole were added to the reserves.
Despite the changes, Marlborough still retain an experienced side with some in-form skips and solid performers in the other positions. The match starts at 9am tomorrow.
