Sherwin Stowers to join NZ team in Glasgow
New father Sherwin Stowers will fly to Glasgow tomorrow night and join up with the New Zealand sevens team for the Commonwealth Games.
The Counties Manukau speedster remained in New Zealand for the birth of his first child, while the New Zealand side went to Amsterdam for Commonwealth Games preparation earlier this week.
With Archie James Stowers arriving on Friday night, Stowers is free to fly to Glasgow and join the team.
Coach Gordon Tietjens had previously said Thursday would be the cut off for the child's birth, allowing Stowers to fly out and join the squad on Friday.
That deadline was extended, such is the experience and talent Stowers brings to the side.
He will be one of the key players in the New Zealand team in Glasgow, and his availability means veteran back-ups Tomasi Cama and Lote Raikabula will return home to New Zealand.
July 2014 will certainly be a month Stowers will never forget, and a second Commonwealth Games gold medal in Glasgow would only add to his stellar month.
