Young Central Districts pace bowler Adam Milne has gained a place in New Zealand's 15-man Twenty-20 cricket squad for the tour of India and World Cup.

The 20-year-old joins the pace department on the back of two T20 appearances against Pakistan back in December 2010.

He gained just one wicket at the cost of 94 runs then but the selectors believe he has made significant progress to justify the inclusion of his speed.

"Adam has impressed during his time with the winter development squad and his extra pace offers something a little different.  We are confident he will have an impact in international cricket and will seize this opportunity," national selection manager, Kim Littlejohn said.

Leading spinner Daniel Vettori is also back in the mix, having not played a T20 international in more than two years.

"We are thrilled to have Daniel back in the fold.  He brings a huge amount of experience and knowledge of conditions in the sub-continent," Littlejohn said, with the World Cup to be played in Sri Lanka.

"The squad also welcomes back James Franklin, who has been playing for Twenty20 cricket for Essex in the county competition.

"The squad has a good balance for Twenty20 cricket with explosive batmen and a good mix of pace and spin bowlers. If they play to their ability they will be a very exciting and extremely competitive team in India and at the ICC World Twenty20."

The selectors have axed Andrew Ellis, Tom Latham and Dean Brownlie after they were involved in the T20s in the recent series against the West Indies.

The first assignment is a Twenty20 series against India with the first match in Vishakhapatnam on September 8 and the second fixture in Chennai on September 11.

The Twenty20 World Cup sees the Black Caps in Group D alongside Pakistan and Bangladesh, with their first pool match against Pakistan on September 21 before playing Bangladesh on September 23 to decide who goes through to the next round.
