New Zealand scored a second emphatic weekend victory at the women's cricket World Cup last night, pounding Pakistan by seven wickets at Cuttack in India.

Canterbury pace bowler Rachel Candy produced the spectacular figures of five for 19 from 10 overs with three maidens as Pakistan were dismissed for a paltry 104 in 41.2 overs.

She was backed by Nicola Browne with two for 12 and a tight spell from Kate Broadmore whose 10 overs yielded just 15.

The New Zealanders then made light of the target winning in the 30th over, with only three wickets down.

Captain Suzie Bates controlled the innings with an unbeaten 65 while Katie Perkins made the most of her first opportunity of the campaign with 25 not out.

New Zealand, having thrashed South Africa in their opening match, now have two wins from two matches in the 50-over showpiece and are assured of a place in the Super Six stage irrespective of the result in the final pool match, against Australia tomorrow night.

However, pool points are carried through so victory against the trans-Tasman foe could be vital in the long run.
