Netball New Zealand has lost the expertise of another influential mentor with former Silver Fern Tracey Fear named as Netball New South Wales' general manager - high performance, a day after Ruth Aitken announced she was joining the Singapore national side in 2013.

Australian-born Fear, who spent a decade as Netball New Zealand's high performance director until March this year, starts her new role in January.

Fear moved to New Zealand as a 19 year old and won 69 caps for the Silver Ferns as a defender from 1982-88.

She then developed an impressive coaching career at New Zealand under-21 and A team level while also serving as a national selector between 1995-97.

Netball NSW and NSW Swifts chief executive Carolyn Campbell was delighted Fear was joining the organisation.

"The development of our talented athletes and ensuring a visionary and forward-thinking pathway for our huge talent pool of 112,000 NSW-based netballers is a priority for us and I believe Tracey's appointment will further enhance our successful programmes," she said.

"As a club competing within the ANZ Championship the NSW Swifts are always looking to ensure that we lead in all aspects of the game and are constantly challenging ourselves to be the best in the world.

"We believe that Tracey will be a true asset to our team and NSW Swifts family."

Fear's parents and siblings live in her native Canberra - a three-hour drive south of Sydney - so the opportunity to relocate closer to them influenced her decision.

Meanwhile, former Silver Ferns coach Aitken, Netball New Zealand's coaching director, takes charge of the Singapore set-up after coaching the Northern Mystics in next year's ANZ Championship.

Aitken has been entrusted with the dual roles of Netball Singapore's technical director and national coach of the world's 18th-ranked nation.
