Defending champion Terror To Love heads the first list of rankings released for this year's New Zealand Trotting Cup.

Addington Raceway officials and Harness Racing New Zealand have introduced a rankings system to determine this year's field for the $600,000 event on November 13.

Previously, the field had been decided by the board of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club (NZMTC).

The move was instigated to usher in a transparent process.Terror To Love and Sir Lincoln were automatically ranked in the top two after winning the cup and Auckland Cup respectively last season. Both warrant automatic race entry. Australians Mustang Mach and Carribean Blaster have Group I winning form, but are uncertain starters, while Sushi Sushi is a definite contender and is expected to have his first trial for new trainer Mark Purdon at Methven this weekend.

The fourth Australian, Talaspring, is down the list because of inferior form.

Horses can improve their rankings in upcoming races. The winner of tomorrow's Maurice Holmes Vase at Addington automatically qualifies for the cup.
