Dagg the new Mr Versatile for Crusaders
Israel Dagg does not care what position he plays - he just wants to be on the field.
Which is fortunate for the Crusaders, because the All Blacks fullback may be involved in a number of positional changes this season.
Dagg has been named on the left wing for tomorrow night's season opener against the Blues, with Tom Taylor starting at fullback.
"It's something a little bit different," Dagg said. "But it's where I have been chosen to play, and I would rather be out there playing on the wing, than not playing at all.
"I've just got to focus now on doing my job right against some pretty classy outside backs."
Although the Crusaders have yet to play an official match, Dagg has already generated some discussion following a cameo at centre during a pre-season match against the Highlanders.
It drew questions as to whether management were looking at making Dagg another option for current No 13 Robbie Fruean, something attack coach Aaron Mauger confirmed was possible.
Wing is not foreign to Dagg, who played in the position during the opening rounds last season, as well as the odd appearance for the All Blacks. "I played there a few times and enjoyed it. It's pretty similar to playing fullback really, you just roam.
"I've got make sure I work hard to get my hands on the ball, and to make sure I get back and support the fullback."
Dagg was not surprised by the Blues' victory over the Hurricanes. "They look like a whole new team, they were really impressive."
