I like gaming but I also like...
I finished Mass Effect 2 last night and it was 34 hours well spent. The final mission was suitably epic and sets the scene nicely for Mass Effect 3, which is no secret. Next on the agenda: finishing Dante's Inferno.
OK, I've noticed the odd comment creeping in from visitors to the site who seem to think we are a sad bunch of people for playing video games, so I've decided that today's topic will be (shock) a bit of an exercise in finding out what other pastimes we like. After all, we've grown a nice we community here and you're all like family ... sort of.
I'll start. I like gaming but I also pina coladas and getting caught in the rain ... no, sorry, just kidding. As I've posted before, I also love road cycling and my pride and joy (apart from my wife) is my 2008 Avanti Giro road bike (resplendent in black and white, with Shimano 105 components, and the design before frames went all oval tubed last year).
I like nothing more than on a warm Summer's morning to don the cycling kit, fill up the drink bottle, lock in the cleats and take to Christchurch's roads (keeping an eye out for black Hummers, of course). Every weekend I'll also go really social and ride with my wife as well. I'm even thinking about getting back into racing again this year. Who knows.
I also cycle to work every day, so I'm fit and healthy, not some overweight gamer who's restricted to his recliner 12 hours a day. I also like boating and waterskiing, and as you all know, Christmas holidays are almost completely devoid of video games, as it's a chance to refresh the batteries for the coming year socialising with family and friends (although I've ditched that special friend Mr Jim Beam for a new bourbon).
I guess what I'm getting at is that people who criticise people for playing video games and comment that we don't have a life need to realise that we do actually have a life outside gaming, one that is often chock-a-block with other stuff to do. I love playing games, but it's not all that I do. I know other gamers who go to music concerts, love watching movies, are hard-out sports nuts. See, all social stuff.
So, today, I'd like you to start your comment with "I like gaming but I also like ..." and let's show those people who don't have a passion for video games that we are actually people worth getting to know.

I like gaming, but I also like Archery (no, not on the Wii), Mountain Biking and Rowing.
And of course the obligatory walks with the better half.
I like gaming but I also like drumming for my metal band, love my mountain bike which takes me to practise & home again (I to Gerard must watch out for big black hummers) aside from gaming my main passion is music (I'm not s stereotypical gamer, obese, still living at home, a virgin playing PS3 in my parents basement afraid from sunlight ever touching my pasty skin causing me to erupt into a ball of flames) I have a fetish for tattoos, piercings & all things odd & strange. I do not inhabit desolate spaces of love rusty spoons. I'm not socially repressed or anything, not thinking about murdering people when i lay awake for hours at night....I think I'm kinda normal....if not...'meh' =)
I like gaming but I also like music. Most musicians, especially touring musicians will have an iphone/psp/ds or xbox when on tour. I frequently tour Australia and one band we were with took a flatscreen telly and xbox with them, to set up in the dressing rooms (they were halo addicts) It's certainly a more productive way to kill time before shows than drugs or alchol, haha.
I've also heard stories from techies about big touring busses in america with xbox live setups, playing 8 player halo between two tour busses on the road. So awesome!
I like gaming but I also like playing music - been doing it for years. Guitar, drums, keys, vocals - you name it. I read a lot as well and am studying physics and media studies at university (after my job went too crap with the change of government).
I also cook - a lot. Building up my culinary skills has been a bit of a goal in the last year and as my partner is supporting me I do most of the cooking at the moment. Bread has been the real discivery from the last months - we haven't brought bread since November last year - got a sour dough starter sitting in the kitchen just getting ready.
We also play a lot of board games (some of them with play times of up to 10 - 12 hours). Anyone who says gamers are sad are simply idiots - I feel the same way about gym bunnies (why exercise inside when you could be outside doing it for free).
Good on ya Gerard.
Unlike Garard I am an overweight gamer but im working hard to change this. I also do road cycling and did 40km on the around taupo last year and am planning to do the 160 this year, My baby is a 2008 Avanti Monza but Im hoping to trade up to a 2010 Avanti Giro just before taupo. Other than cycling and gaming I love just spending time with my Fiance, Reading and having a drink at the pub with m8s
I like gaming but I also like ... Rugby!
Not only do I love watching it, I also love playing it! I spend my days contemplating how to get a career in Rugby (not as a player - I am average at best). In fact if I could say who I would most like to be like (Other than Gerard!) it would be Tony Johnson (Rugby commentator and head of Reunion)
But while I contemplate these career paths I will continue to game to pass my time (Finished Mass Effect 2 yesterday, 32hrs, Slight annoyed that I couldn't keep everyone alive!)
Also Football, I am playing 3 games of summer football a week at the moment
I like gaming but i also like, playing tennis, i play almost 4 nights of week in the summer, i also like following sports im a big fan of watching Cricket, Tennis, League, Basketball etc. Finally i love music and have recently been going to heaps of concerts 6 so far since late October last year!
I like gaming but i also like... swimming at the beach, shopping, reading, road trips and the movies.
