DayZ creator Dean Hall is hoping the standalone version of his zombie survival mod will be successful enough to justify a console version.

"You're not going to put it on the consoles if you're only going to sell 100,000 units or something like that," Hall said.

"DayZ will be driven by its PC development and it will innovate on that. And, once we're at a point, we'll take it and do a Mac version, 360 and PS3."

Hall added that he had met with some console developers at the Game Developers Conference.

The Kiwi developer has also given some details about the upcoming standalone PC version of DayZ, saying that it could eventually have "instanced" building.

He saw player-driven construction in the game consisting of underground bases that would be instanced from portals across Chernarus.

Players would be able to excavate and concrete these bunkers, and perhaps build things such as hydroponics to aid survival.

New maps would periodically be released too.

Hall said the standalone version of DayZ would be out before the end of the year.
