Digital media expert and toy designer Tanya Marriott is moving up from the challenge of creating a film in 48 hours to creating a full video game in the same time.
The Massey University digital media lecturer will be heading a team of 15 competing in the Global Game Jam at Lower Hutt's Dowse Art Museum this weekend, as tens of thousands worldwide vie to be the best over a two-day period.
New Zealand is the first of 56 countries to take part in the international competition. A veteran of 48-hour film festivals, Mrs Marriott said her plan was to create a video game that was also physical - a board game with digital play.
Members of the public were also welcome to observe or even volunteer their skills at the museum - interested people can contact Dowse staff for more information.
