Microsoft's LifeCam NX-3000
This is a svelte, almost lipstick-sized webcam that is designed to fit on most laptops thanks to a clip at the back. It offers a VGA (video graphics array) resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, and shoots still photos at a resolution of 1.3 megapixels. The built-in microphone swivels up and down so it really doesn't matter where you are, it should pic up your voice when you're video chatting to Auntie Mabel and it's apparently compatible with several instant messaging programs, although it's optimised for Windows Live. It will set you back $99. Also available for desktops is the LifeCam VX-7000 ($189).
