Schapelle Corby's boyfriend says he's living in torment as he watches her languish in jail, it has been reported.

Ben Panangian, a Balinese who was a former prisoner in the island's notorious Kerobokan Jail, told New Idea the pair met at a prison church service in 2006.

"When I visit she always asks me to give her a big hug, because affection is something she craves and misses," Mr Panangian, 30, told the magazine.

"I'm scared - she thinks she cannot survive and says her life is not worth living.

"She's only holding on for her family."

The former Gold Coast beauty therapist was sentenced to 20 years' jail after she was caught at Bali's airport in October 2004 with 4.1kg of marijuana in her boogie board bag.

She was given a four-month sentence cut in August as part of Indonesian Independence Day celebrations.

Attempts to contact members of the Corby family for comment on Monday were unsuccessful.
