A 23-year-old man faces four counts of attempted first-degree murder for the weekend's quadruple shooting on Bourbon Street during the final weekend of revelry counting down to and culminating with Mardi Gras festivities, police said.

Deron Bridgewater, of Marrero, surrendered Monday (Tuesday, NZT) after seeing his photograph on a television newscast Sunday night (Monday morning, NZT), said New Orleans police spokesman Frank B Robertson III.

He's cooperating with investigators, Robertson said.

It was not immediately known whether Bridgewater had an attorney.

The shooting came on the last weekend of partying before Mardi Gras, the city's signature tourist event of the year.

Bridgewater and two other men are believed to have gotten into an argument with someone before gunshots erupted late Saturday night on a jam-packed Bourbon Street in the city's historic French Quarter.

Two men and two women were shot; three have since been released from area hospitals. Of those treated and released, a man was shot in the buttocks, one woman was shot on the chin and right foot, and the second woman was shot on the toe, police said. No ages or names were released.

Bullets hit the fourth victim in the abdomen, thigh and pelvis. He was in stable condition after surgery, police said.

Authorities were seeking a second person who is believed to have critical information regarding the shooting, Robertson said.
