A group of boys who assaulted a man in Timaru's Scenic Reserve are going through the family group conference process to determine whether they will go to court.

Three of the five boys, aged 15, have taken part in the conference process, Constable Janfre Gibbs said.

The others, aged 14 and 15, were yet to have their conferences.

The victim attended the conferences already held.

The incident happened at 4.30pm on February 14 at the Scenic Reserve's zig-zag. The victim, 38 at the time, was treated for concussion and facial and rib injuries.

The boys were referred to youth aid for injuring with intent to injure.
