A man with life threatening injuries after he was crushed between a truck and a fertiliser loading bucket has been flown to Christchurch for more treatment.

Emergency services were called to the incident near Lake Benmore about 8.15am yesterday.

A 49-year-old farm owner had suffered ''massive'' injuries to his pelvic area, a spokesman for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter said.

The man had been leaning up against a loading bucket when a truck drove forward and crushed him, the spokesman said.

The man was stabilised at the scene by paramedics before he was flown to Timaru Hospital where he had emergency surgery. He was transferred to Christchurch Hospital yesterday afternoon.
