One of four people charged after the death of an Ashburton man has pleaded guilty in the Timaru District Court to a charge of assault with intent to rob.

The other three people facing charges related to the death of Arran James Gairns, 34, of Ashburton, have yet to enter pleas.

Name suppression has lapsed for the four, who were charged with assault with intent to rob early on May 31.

Gairns was found dead on Sunday, June 1, in a drainage runoff area behind commercial premises on West St, Ashburton.

Desmond Kapi Marshall, 46, of Netherby, this morning admitted to the assault and was remanded in custody to August 28 for sentencing.

The summary of facts was suppressed because of the other three accused not having entered pleas.

Olivia Toby Frances Lucas, 26, of Wellington, was granted bail and remanded without plea until July 29. She has been in custody since her arrest in June.

Verdun Ashley Perry, 24, of Mayfield, was also remanded on bail to July 29, without plea.

Kooly Managki Te Tomo, 26, who had also been held in custody, was remanded on bail to August 21.
