Temuka man David John Niles was killed instantly when the tree he was cutting fell on him on Saturday.

The  61-year-old was a keen motorcyclist and rode with Timaru, Temuka and Geraldine Motorcycle Touring Club.

The accident occurred at 12.15pm during a club event to gather wood for burning at a rally in November.

Timaru CIB is investigating. No further details were available yesterday
