Broadcaster Paul Holmes is to return to his Saturday morning programme on Newstalk ZB later this month.

The scheduled September 22 return will be more than three months after Holmes underwent a four-hour open-heart operation to remove a blockage and do remedial work on his heart.

After the operation he was put on life support in an induced coma to quicken the recovery process.

The 62-year-old was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy - a genetic condition in which the heart muscle becomes thick and blocks blood flow.

"Paul and his family have received a lot of support, and he has recovered well from the surgery," Newstalk ZB said.
