Tamati Coffey will be leaving TVNZ's morning show Breakfast to tour Europe with his partner.

This morning, the New Zealand's Got Talent presenter and TVNZ weatherman announced on air his intention to take a sabbatical.

On Twitter he wrote: "Hey team. So I'm leaving Breakfast. Gonna hang out in Runcorn, England for a while. To be with my boy and his family,"he said.

Coffey followed up by saying, "if all went well", he would be back to host a second series of New Zealand's Got Talent.

It was announced on Breakfast this morning that Coffey was planning to take six months off to tour Europe with his partner Tim Smith.

"Me and my partner are going to the other side of the world, so I'm going to take a bit of a sabbatical from TVNZ, and go and have some fun," Coffey said.

Tamati has banded together with other well-known New Zealanders in a new video to show solidarity for the proposed Marriage Amendment Bill.

Coffey has had various presenting roles over the past nine years with TVNZ.

He started out on What Now, and has had stints on Dancing with the Stars, and hosted New Zealand's Got Talent - one of the biggest series of the past decade.

TVNZ said he was expected to be back on screen in the second half of 2013.

Meanwhile, Saturday Breakfast weather presenter Sam Wallace would take over on Breakfast.
