Bruce Springsteen will play four Australian shows next year, but definitely won't be returning to New Zealand.

The Boss was rumoured to be playing at Auckland's Vector Arena as part of his Wrecking Ball Tour, however, the Frontier Touring Company have informed Kiwi fans via Facebook that there will be no shows here.

"We've received a huge number of messages and enquiries from fans in Perth, Adelaide and across New Zealand about Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band extending their tour to your cities," the statement reads.

"Unfortunately the tour cannot be extended beyond the cities already announced. The production for this tour is considerable and it is both time consuming and costly to move it from one city to the next within a short space of time. As the tour can only be in the country for a certain period of time, it has therefore been limited to the east coast of Australia."

The statement said many variables were looked at before the itinerary was finalised.

"There is absolutely no disrespect or lack of love for these other cities but in the end the crucial thing was finding a time period to bring Bruce and the E Street Band out to Australia that worked in with their other commitments."

The news comes after almost two years of rumours when a fan site published what it thought was leaked tour dates, including an Auckland show scheduled for September 2010.

Earlier this year many fans believed Springsteen might play the Napier's Mission Estate Winery in February, however, Bee Gee Barry Gibb and Carole King were later confirmed for the show.

Springsteen last toured New Zealand in 2003 when he played to 50,000 fans at a wet Western Springs. He will play shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and the Macedon Ranges in Victoria.
