Actor Bruce Willis admits he was "hard to be around" when he first tasted success.

The action icon catapulted to fame in his role as Officer John McClane in 1988 movie Die Hard

In the 25 years since the pivotal film, Willis has fathered four children.

He has three grown daughters Tallulah, Rumer, and Scout with ex-wife Demi Moore and 10-month-old Mabel Ray with his wife of nearly four years, model Emma Heming.

Willis is content with being a dad, as parenthood has altered his life tremendously.

"Back in those days I was a smart-arse and hard to be around," he told British newspaper The Mirror.

"My job is just trying to make my little baby [Mabel] laugh. She sticks her hand in my face and pulls me over by the ear."

Willis takes his role as father very seriously.

Being a parent keeps him vigorous.

"I'm very sentimental with my children and I indulge them to a very high degree," he said.

"One of the things that makes becoming a father that much easier for me is that I pretty much stay in shape and I can run and jump and play, and being a father at this point in my life is great.

"I feel like I have the same amount of love I used to have, if not more. I like getting up early and I like looking after Mabel and it's just very exciting - it makes me very happy."
