Not everybody is excited about J.J. Abrams taking the helm at the new Star Wars film.

William Shatner who played Captain James T. Kirk in the original TV series and seven movies wasn't too happy that the director signed on for the rival franchise.

Abrams was announced as director for Star Trek VII earlier this year after directing two Star Trek films, of which the latest, Into Darkness, opens in May.

"He's being a pig," Shatner told Movie Fanatic. "He's collecting the two franchises and holding them close to his vest."

It's not that he doesn't believe in Abrams' abilities. "He's probably the most talented director of that ilk we have. But, he's gone too far this time."

When Abrams took over the Star Trek franchise in 2008, there was speculation that Shatner's Captain Kirk would appear in the movie but Abrams and the actor didn't come to an agreement and Shatner later claimed that he was never asked.

However they seem to have made up. "I think of him as a buddy of mine. I've taken him out for sushi.

"I think it's time for JJ and I to have a bit of sushi and let me put him straight about [having] two of the largest franchises and not employing me in either one of them.... not employing me in either one of them is just foolhardy,"Shatner said.
