Teenage retro rockers on a roll
Talented South Canterbury teens will take to the stage in Geraldine this month in a retro-themed show.
A raft of young talent lined up will perform in the upcoming Geraldine Players production Rock On, a musical theatre comedy tribute to the 70s and 80s.
The show was written and directed by locals Alice Sollis, Sharleyne Diamond and Sheryl Thompson.
The cast includes Annalise Nelson, a Year 13 student at Geraldine High School, who is heading to Christchurch-based performing arts school NASDA next year, Amelia James, who has won numerous singing awards around Canterbury, 13-year-old Geraldine High School Year 9 student Zoe Scott, who is off to the Tamworth Country Music Festival in January after being placed second in the Country Entertainer of the Year competition.
Zoe told The Timaru Herald stepping back in time had been load of fun. The music was different, but she was enjoying it.
"Some of it my parents were listening to when they were my age. I'd heard a few (songs) but some of them I hadn't."
Rehearsals had been underway for a couple of months and the show was "coming along nicely", she said.
"It's really fun in the cast; it's so cool."
It is her first adult show, which she was enjoying.
"They're nice and friendly and they're nice to work with. It's like family in a way. Everybody looks after each other. I'm learning heaps."
