Hollywood comes calling for Claire
Former Roncalli College student Claire Bunt will live the Hollywood dream when she competes at the World Championships of Performing Arts in July.
She will join Geraldine High School dance group "Third" in the New Zealand Black Stars team at the international talent competition being held in Hollywood, Los Angeles. The event pits national teams against each other in all performance genres.
She was excited scouts would be there awarding scholarships to acts they felt had star quality.
Claire was picked for the team after answering the call to audition through the Star Now website that hosts resumes of artists and performers.
"I auditioned two years ago and never got in," she said.
"(This year) I uploaded a video . . . and sent it in with a bit about myself."
She sang One and Only by Adele.
It was a nervous wait to find out if she had been selected.
"I couldn't sleep at night time . . . (it was) 1am in the morning and I saw the email and I rang my friends and said 'I'm going to Hollywood'.
"I'm getting quite excited now knowing there's only, like, 23 weeks to go."
At the championships Claire will sing songs from five categories, including R'n'B, country and an original song.
"They treat it like the Olympics. You've got a minute on each song."
Claire moved to Auckland last year where she is studying early childhood education and working as a nanny.
She said she had been singing for about five years.
