Trailblazing the Alps 2 Ocean
Work '90 per cent' finishedFLEUR COGLE
The 312km Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail is not finished yet, but people are already checking it out.
The trail, which will take cyclists from Aoraki/Mt Cook village to Oamaru following the high country's hydro lake system, is 90 per cent complete.
Only sections between Twizel and Omarama, and Duntroon and Oamaru are still to be done.
For those intrigued - but unsure what the adventure might entail - Timaru Herald photographer John Bisset recently cycled part of it and made a video of his experience.
Mr Bisset rode about 16km between Hayman Rd and Twizel, taking in scenery along the east side of Lake Pukaki.
The trail has been designed in stages so cyclists can choose what sections they want to do. The full trail is expected to take cyclists six days.
