News time: Journey Through Time, an exhibition of 150 images celebrating the 150th anniversary of The Timaru Herald is on at the Aigantighe Art Gallery until July 4. The images will be sold by silent auction with the proceeds going to South Canterbury Hospice.

Create light: Celebrate Matariki (the Maori New Year). Sign up for the lantern-making workshop at the Te Ana Rock Art Centre, then bring your lantern to the Te Ana Festival of Light Lantern Parade in the Timaru Botanical Gardens, 6 to 7pm, Saturday June 28. Lantern-making workshops are being held at Te Ana Maori Rock Art Centre each Saturday this month. It takes about an hour to make a lantern and costs $5.

Country Music Awards: The Waimate Competitions Society's 23rd Country Music Awards is on for junior to intermediate artists at the Regent Theatre, Shearman St, Waimate from 8.30am to about 6pm.
To market: Phar Lap Market Day is on today at Phar Lap Raceway off Pleasant Point Highway, Timaru.
The big day: The South Canterbury Wedding & Events Show is on at the Southern Trust Events Centre, Morgans Rd, Timaru from 10am-4pm.
