Rock On: The Timaru Rock n' Roll Club is holding its 25th Birthday Dance at 8pm in the Roncalli College Gym, Craigie Ave, Timaru. Band is Cuda Groove, BYO drinks and a plate for supper. Tickets $15 prebooked, door sales $18 and under 16s free.
Sun gaze: Observe the sun with specialised telescopes. An event supported by Geraldine Observatory and South Canterbury Astronomers Group. At the Geraldine Village Green from 10am till 2pm.
Create light: Celebrate Matariki (the Maori New Year). Sign up for the lantern-making workshop at the Te Ana Maori Rock Art Centre, then bring your lantern to the Te Ana Festival of Light Lantern Parade in the Timaru Botanical Gardens from 6 to 7pm. $2 entry.
SUNDAY, JUNE 29
To Market: Station market, at the Railway Station Timaru, with plentiful supplies of vegetables, breads, plants and crafts.
Craft fun: Pareora Art and Craft Group, 10.30am to 4.30pm. $2 for the whole day. Bring your own art, relax and get ideas from other arty, crafty people. BYO lunch. Tea and coffee supplied. Held at Pareora Hall, Elworthy St Pareora. For free: Kids art fun, drawing tips, learn new stuff, card-making, poetry, music, painting, bring paper, pencil, and art gear. Tutored for free, 1pm-2pm.
To Market: The Pleasant Point Market Day is on at the Legends Cafe, Pleasant Point. 9am start with local craft on sale.
