FOR CHARTY: Raising money will be the focus of a Pink Ribbon breakfast at Lone Star on Friday morning. Quantum Advantage receptionist Michaela Sandiland tests out a bike donated for auction.

Raising money for charity while having fun was what Timaru businesses decided to do for this year's Pink Ribbon breakfast.

Event organiser Adam Blake said raising money for something that affects so many people did not need to be a sombre affair.

"It should be a fun morning which people will enjoy," Blake said.

The breakfast, to be held at Lone Star, will raise money in aid of the fight against breast cancer.

The group behind the project has a goal of raising $10,000 for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation. So far $6000 has already been raised.

He said several local businesses had donated goods to be auctioned during the meal, including a suit and a bicycle.

Blake said organisers hoped to secure the services of an All Black to compere the breakfast and auction.

About half the tickets had already been sold, which will get each ticket holder a drink and a cooked breakfast, Blake said.
