The Temuka Happiness Club spread cheer and enjoyed some cake to celebrate its 51st birthday.

Fifty-six of the club's members gathered at the Tea Pot Inn for the occasion. They were treated to birthday cake and a sing-a-long, courtesy of Joy and Tony from the Town and Country Club.

The club was started in 1963 and opened by the Temuka mayor at the time, M A Cameron.

The purpose of the club was to provide entertainment for senior citizens and to help them meet old and new friends.

Club secretary and treasurer Annette Chapman said the members' ages ranged from mid-60s to mid-90s. They meet on the third Wednesday of the month at the RSA.
