The dirty nights continued this week in Timaru.
The town experienced its fifth and sixth high pollution nights on Tuesday and Wednesday.
It reached the worst levels for the winter so far on Tuesday, with a reading of 77 micrograms of suspended particulate per cubic metre of air. On Wednesday, it was 59 micrograms.
The health guidelines call for the average over a 24-hour period to be less than 50mcg. This time last year, there had been only two high readings.
