Waimate High School pupil Ella Bray is set to star in an upcoming episode of a popular television show.

Ella, a year 10 pupil, recently won a competition held by Television New Zealand's 4.30 Show, with those that entered having to describe what their perfect paint party would be.

The show's hosts and crew visited the school on Tuesday armed with five different paint colours and free licence for Ella to do what she pleased with it.

She requested a party with her fellow year 10 pupils.

"My favourite part of the paint party, apart from the initial paint throwing, was when I got to play twister with paint patches on each circle," Ella said.

"We all got mucky, everyone was cheering us on."

Ella said the show's presenters were "really nice". She was surprised at just how much goes into creating a television segment.

"It was cool when we had to retake the shots three or four times to get them right, even the littlest detail mattered."

Despite being covered from head to toe in paint along with everyone else, Ella said the paint party was awesome and that everyone had a blast.

However, she admitted to having a little trouble getting the paint out of her hair.

Ella's segment will be featured on the 4.30 Show on Monday, June 9.
