SNOWY DAYS: Footprints in the snow in front of the Church of the Good Shepherd.

A humble church in the Mackenzie District has been recognised by the world's largest travel site, Trip Advisor.

Built to the glory of God as a memorial to the pioneers of the Mackenzie Country, the Church of the Good Shepherd has been named among the top 10 New Zealand landmarks.

The Church of the Good Shepherd was in good company as the Travellers' Choice awards highlighted the top landmarks and parks from around the globe.

The church is situated on the shores of Lake Tekapo, among the natural beauty of the lake and the mountains.

Olveston in Dunedin won the top place in the New Zealand landmarks category, with Sky Tower in Auckland placed second.

Others in the top 10, following on in order were: Old St Paul's Cathedral, Wellington; Stone Store, Kerikeri Mission Station; Parliament Buildings, Wellington; Pompalier House, Russell; Nugget Point, Balclutha; Waitangi National Trust and Treaty House; Church of the Good Shepherd, Lake Tekapo; and Auckland Harbour Bridge.

This was the second year of the awards for the categories and 929 winners were identified, including the top 25 in the world and dedicated lists for Asia, Australia, Canada, China, Europe, India, Mexico, South America, the South Pacific, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews for landmark and park attractions worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period.
