Pursuit driver turns himself in

The driver of a car involved in an abandoned police chase early on Monday morning has turned himself in.

The Timaru man, 28, presented himself at the Timaru police station on Monday afternoon.

Police had pursued his white 1999 Mitsubishi Galant from Waimataitai St to State Highway 1 about 12.30am, yesterday but they pulled out of the chase when the Galant reached speeds over 150kmh.

He has been charged with driving while disqualified, failing to stop, and driving at dangerous speeds, and his vehicle has been impounded.
