Timaru's eternal light goes out
Timaru's eternal light has gone out, again.
The bulb in the Light of Remembrance on top of the Timaru District Council's clock tower went out last week and was replaced on Monday.
A crane was required and the street was closed during installation.
Yesterday morning, the light, which is meant to be going at all times in remembrance of those who have died in wars, was out again.
Council property manager Matt Ambler said the bulb was not working and, although the system had been checked by an electrician, he did not know why it had failed.
The council would now have to replace it.
