Quest for bed ends in drink-driving charge

Asking the Timaru police where to find a "good backpackers" has turned into a charge for drink-driving for a 70-year-old Blenhiem man.

The man drove to the Timaru police station to make his inquiry at 2.45am this morning after drinking with family in Geraldine.

After smelling a strong scent of alcohol on his breath, a police conducted a breath test and found the man had an excess breath alcohol level of 547mcg.

He was charged with drink driving.
