MetService is forecasting a fine start to the weekend after a week of bad weather and snow in some areas.
A severe weather watch has been lifted for most of the South Island, with skifields celebrating a nice early-season dump of snow earlier in the week.
However, despite the worst being over, the NZ Transport Agency was still advising caution for motorists who may encounter icy roads, especially in North Canterbury and Lewis Pass. Chains would be required in Lewis Pass.
There would still be very cold nights ahead, so wrap up warm and be prepared to defrost car windscreens in the morning.
