Centre earns glowing report
The relationships within Creative Corner Early Learning Centre's community are what the centre manager is crediting for an excellent Education Review Office (ERO) report.
The report gave the Timaru centre the highest possible ranking of "very well placed", as well as the longest gap allowed until its next review - four years.
Manager Angela O'Connor believed the high ranking was achieved because there was a high level involvement of parents at all levels in the centre.
"We say we operate with the community for the community, so parents can be very involved with the running of the centre or things just in regard to their child. "As a result we have very high levels of parent engagement," she said.
O'Connor said those relationships were important because learning happens at home and in educational facilities.
"We are trying to do as much as we can to support that learning."
She was pleased the report reflected that the right systems were in place as the centre had moved in February and the review was conducted only six weeks later.
"We were well prepared," she said.
The ERO report said the strengths seen in the 2010 assessment were still evident. It noted children have strong friendships and play purposefully in groups independently and are supported by teachers.
The report said it was obvious teachers had chosen to work in early childhood because they were passionate about it. That passion was displayed in the caring and supportive relationships the teachers had with the children.
