A former personal assistant of the late Julia Child entertained 60 people at A Mid-Winter Luncheon held yesterday in Geraldine.
Child was an American chef, writer and television personality who was acknowledged as bringing French cuisine to Americans' tables. She died in 2004 after a long career.
The luncheon was organised by Geraldine Lionness Club and the celebrity cook's former PA, Stephanie Hersh, demonstrated fish and chicken dishes and a lemon dessert, which the audience then ate.
The fundraiser held at Geraldine Primary School hall for Encore, a breast cancer exercise programme, raised about $600.
Hersh became Child's PA when she was 28 and a strong friendship grew between the two in the next two decades.
Bev Gregan of the Lionness projects committee said it had been a very successful event and she had learnt a few cooking tricks from Hersh who now lives in Christchurch.
