COSTLY JOB: A consent application has been lodged for the $600,000 earthquake-strengthening of the Church of the Holy Innocents at Mt Peel, north of Geraldine.

Building consent has been granted for the renovation and strengthening of the Church of the Holy Innocents at Mt Peel.

The 146-year-old church was significantly damaged in the September 4, 2010 earthquake. The church was built in 1868, after the land was gifted to the Canterbury diocese by the Acland family.

John Acland Sr said the "money is in place", so the project will begin when the weather warms up.
