A Timaru fundraiser on a mission to help cancer research has already raised $6000.
Kiri Turner will be taking part in the two-day 200-kilometre, 2014 Ride to Conquer Cancer, and aims to raise $20,000.
The ride, beginning in Auckland, promises to be a challenge, but Turner is taking it all in her stride.
She suffers from a hip injury and her ankle was recently reconstructed, but that did not stop her from setting up a collection booth at the Crusaders-Blues Super Rugby game in Christchurch last week, where she raised $500.
"I will go again this Saturday. With the aid of Countdown customers, I have raised over $900 and patrons to the Timaru bars have donated over $300."
No Timaru businesses had approached her yet.
"People think I am crazy doing what I am doing, but the effects of treatment are huge, both on the recipient and their friends and family. The training and discomfort I will experience to complete this ride is so minor in comparison and is the least I can do.".
