Speeding driver escapes on foot
The driver of a car stopped by Timaru police on Saturday ran away, and is still being sought.
A white Nissan Primera was stopped at 9pm for minor speeding in Woollcombe St and police were expecting to give the driver a "talking to", but now he is wanted for failing to remain stopped.
Constable Roger Curtis said the only passenger remained in the car.
Police and police dogs chased the driver near Church, Bank and Perth streets but could not find him.
Meanwhile, three occupants of a Ford Falcon, which crashed into a fence on Barnes St, fled before police arrived at 4am on Saturday.
The owner of the uninsured vehicle reported it stolen later that day and claimed it had been left with the keys in the ignition on a road.
