NEARLY THERE: The uphill traffic from Timaru's Centennial Park has been stopped in preparation for the Church St and Otipua Rd intersection traffic lights being commissioned.

Timaru's newest traffic lights could be up and running as soon as this weekend.

Timaru District Council district services manager Ashley Harper said he had hoped the lights at the intersection of Otipua Rd and Church St would be operating today; however, the contractor was waiting for lanterns to be supplied from out of town.

They were now expected to be turned on between Friday and Monday.

The Otipua Rd entrance to Centennial Park has been closed for the past couple of weeks as part of the redevelopment.

Traffic from the intersection will still be able to enter Centennial Park once traffic lights are installed at the intersection, but traffic will only be one-way.
