Timaru's main road traffic had to be diverted briefly after a two-car crash opposite the BP petrol station on Evans St today.
A forest green Jeep and a white Kia crashed as the Jeep driver was exiting the station just after 1pm this afternoon.
Shortly after the first crash, a motorcyclist came off his bike in the same area.
Sergeant Mark Offen, of Timaru, said fire, police and St John ambulance personnel were called to the crash because of its location, not its severity.
''It was due to it being on a state highway and the volume of traffic going through the area. Police had to divert traffic while it was cleaned up,'' he said.
Constable Aaron Collins said the only injury was a cut to a male passenger's arm. All other occupants in the vehicles, including a caged Jack Russell, were safe.
The motorcyclist was not injured.
Traffic was diverted for 15 to 20 minutes, Collins said.
