State Highway 1 traffic through Timaru had to be diverted after two vehicles crashed outside the BP petrol station in Evans St yesterday.
They collided as one exited the station just after 1pm. Shortly after, a motorcyclist came off his bike in the same area.
Senior Sergeant Mark Offen said fire, police and St John ambulance personnel were called to the crash because of its location, not its severity. "It was due to it being on a state highway and the volume of traffic going through the area. Police had to divert traffic while it was cleaned up," he said.
Constable Aaron Collins said the only injury was a cut to a passenger's arm. All other occupants in the vehicles, including a caged jack russell dog, were safe.
The motorcyclist was not injured.
Traffic was diverted for 15 to 20 minutes, Collins said.
