A Temuka man has pleaded guilty to breaching the Fisheries Act and offering for sale salmon caught in the High Country hydro canals.
Hayden William Robert Don, 33, a sickness beneficiary of Temuka, pleaded guilty in the Timaru District Court this morning to the sale of a sports fish, a breach of the Fisheries Act.
The court heard between August and November last year he offered salmon for sale by text message or cold calling at businesses in Temuka and Timaru.
He offered cold smoked vacuum-packed salmon he had prepared by a butcher in Temuka.
When interviewed by a fisheries officer, he said he knew he was not allowed to sell it and "[took] full responsibility for what I have done. But I wasn't making millions of dollars from it".
Judge Joanna Maze remanded him to September 18 for sentencing, indicating community work or community detention was likely.
