Gangs involved in main street brawl
Police are still looking for a gang member after a lunchtime fight in Timaru's Stafford St on Wednesday.
Sergeant Kevin McErlain said four members of the Mongrel Mob and Black Power were involved in the fight.
"At least one member of each party was wearing a patch," he said.
Three men were arrested and police were looking for the fourth.
McErlain said charges laid included fighting, assault with intent to injure and possession of a weapon.
"Members of the public phoned us after the window at Domino [clothing shop] was smashed," he said.
McErlain was aware phones and other electronic devices had been used to film the incident.
"There was a lot of foot traffic at the time, so we want anyone who has witnessed the incident to come forward with information."
It was an uncommon occurrence for gang members to fight on the main street in the middle of the day, he said.
"It's totally unacceptable for gang members to be fighting on the main street.
"That's why we want anyone who knows anything to come forward."
