Ministers' travel bill tops $1m
In the past three months Rangitata MP Jo Goodhew's expenses included a dinner in New York, two new diplomatic passports and a trip to Beijing.
The Department of Internal Affairs released the ministerial expenses for April, May and June yesterday.
During that period Goodhew spent $57,083.
Almost half of that was on a trip to China, which cost the taxpayer $23,000.
However, that was only a dip in the ocean of international travel expenses for ministers during that time, which amounted to over $1 million.
Goodhew had been in New York to attend the United Nations Commission on the status of women.
While there she spent $143.41 on her credit card on a dinner at Capital Grille for herself and her private secretary who had accompanied her.
Figures were also released for Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean.
She has spent $33,662 of which $23,853 was spent on travel, both surface (on land) and air.
She spent $8000 on accommodation in Wellington and $1809 out of Wellington.
