Beverley Rd car fire 'not suspicious'
A Mitsubishi Lancer parked on Beverley Rd caught fire in the early hours this morning and ignited another vehicle parked in front of it.
Timaru fire service crew attended the call out just after 1.30am, with one fire engine.
While the cause has yet to be determined, assistant area commander Steven Greenyer was the fire was not being treated as suspicious.
''It happens sometimes - it's not uncommon for cars to catch fire. However, they rarely explode like they do on TV,'' he said.
The silver-coloured Mitsubishi was extensively damaged while the boot of the late model Holden Commodore in front of it was melted.
