An alleged crime spree which started in Waimate, ended in Temuka in the early hours of yesterday morning with the arrest of a 20-year-old Waimate man.
The man allegedly stole a vehicle from Glasgow St, Waimate at 12.40am yesterday and drove north to Makikihi where police said he used an axe and crowbar to break into Makikihi Motors.
The vehicle was later driven off from Timaru's Z Energy without the petrol being paid for.
Police pursued the vehicle to Temuka where the driver abandoned it on Domain Ave and continued on foot. Police dogs were used to locate him.
He appeared in court yesterday on a range of charges and was remanded in custody until August 28.
